A year and a half ago, I formatted my portable hard drive to ReFS (for fun). Having used this thing for so long, let me casually write about some of its disadvantages. (I’ll only mention what I encountered; I’ll skip the clichéd stuff like being unable to boot)
First, unlike NTFS, it can’t check for errors. If it encounters a file error, it will simply delete the file, leaving only a record in the log without saying a word to you. Second, if you put Steam’s library folder on this thing, updating World of Warships kept producing disk write errors. It turned out the file was already gone from the disk, but it still showed up in the file list (when deleting, it would show “xxx not found, please confirm” or similar). Compatibility is very poor; even different Win10 versions can’t read it. I updated to a test build of the system and found it crashing every day. I wanted to go back to the original system, but found that the original system couldn’t read the ReFS drive. In the end, I was held hostage, forced to use this thing that green-screens every day.
